Class X student dies after falling into Kolong river

Nagaon: A tragic incident occurred in Nagaon town in which a schoolgirl died after falling from a bridge into the Kolong river near the Assam State Transport Corporation office at Nagaon this morning here. According to an eyewitness, the girl accidentally fell into the Kolong river. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately rescued her and rushed her to Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital, Nagaon for treatment. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.

      The deceased has been identified as Khushi Ghosh. She was a Class 10 student at Nagaon Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School. She was a resident of Lakhimi path, Laokhowa road in Nagaon town.  Her sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over the school and the Laokhowa road area. A somber atmosphere prevails at her residence.  

       After a post-mortem examination at Nagaon Medical College Hospital, the body was handed over to the family. The exact circumstances leading to the girl falling into the river remain unknown. Police have launched an investigation. The details of the incident are expected to come to light only after the police probe and the post-mortem report are complete.
