Shillong, May 21: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) has invited applications from eligible private candidates for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination, creating an alternative pathway for individuals who were unable to complete their studies through the conventional education system.
The initiative is aimed at widening access to formal education and offering a renewed opportunity to learners who had to discontinue their academic journey due to personal, financial or socio-economic circumstances. Officials said the move forms part of wider efforts to make education more inclusive and accessible across the state.
The need for such initiatives has been highlighted by recent Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) figures, which estimate that Meghalaya has around 8.40 lakh school dropouts. The data points to the growing importance of flexible educational systems and alternative routes that allow learners to return and complete their education.
One of the major features of the latest notification is that there is no upper age limit for applicants. The provision allows individuals from various age groups to appear for the SSLC examination and obtain a recognised secondary education qualification.
To improve access for candidates across different regions, applications can be submitted through designated centres throughout the state. The arrangement is expected to benefit applicants, particularly those residing in remote areas.
MBOSE has advised prospective candidates to go through the official notification carefully for complete details regarding eligibility requirements, documentation, examination fees and application procedures before submitting their forms within the stipulated deadline.
The board has also appealed to schools, community groups and other stakeholders to spread awareness about the initiative so that more eligible candidates can take advantage of the opportunity.
