Sivasagar, May 21: A major cache of materials allegedly linked to counterfeit currency production was seized during a police operation at Kareng Tiniyal in Assam’s Sivasagar district, officials said on May 21.
The operation was carried out by the Sivasagar Sadar Police following specific intelligence inputs. During the raid, police recovered a substantial quantity of suspected materials believed to be used for printing fake currency notes. Authorities also seized an e-rickshaw and a mini dumper that were allegedly being used to transport the materials.
Police arrested Arshad Ali in connection with the case. Two others, identified as Mofizul Haque and Bitul Barak, were detained for questioning as part of the investigation.
Investigators are currently examining whether the two drivers had any direct involvement with the seized materials or links to the arrested suspect.
Officials said further details about the alleged network and the intended use of the recovered items are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses. The seized materials have been sent for examination while police continue inquiries to determine whether additional individuals were involved in the operation.
