Retired APS Officer Girin Chandra Deka Dies After Alleged Assault in Guwahati, One Held

Guwahati, May 25: Retired Assam Police Service officer Girin Chandra Deka died on Sunday after allegedly being assaulted in the Ghoramara area of Guwahati, officials said.

According to reports, Deka was allegedly attacked by a youth identified as Sanjit Boro following a reported altercation over a parking-related issue. The assault allegedly left the retired officer critically injured, after which he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Deka later succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Police have detained one accused in connection with the case. Officials said Sanjit Boro was apprehended during a police operation conducted in Jorhat.

Authorities also stated that a post-mortem examination of Deka would be conducted at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Monday.

The incident has sparked concern over incidents of violence and vigilantism in Guwahati. Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
