Meghalaya to Get ₹150-Crore High-Altitude Training Centre Ahead of National Games 2027

Shillong, May 31: Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday announced that Meghalaya will receive a High-Altitude Training Centre worth ₹150 crore as part of efforts to strengthen sports infrastructure in the North East.

The announcement was made during a review meeting on preparations for the 39th National Games, which Meghalaya will host in 2027. Mandaviya expressed confidence in the state’s readiness and said the event is progressing on schedule.

Officials presented updates on venue development, infrastructure projects and overall preparedness for the Games. The minister also called for greater awareness among athletes about the dangers of doping.

The meeting was attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse, PT Usha, Meghalaya Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla and sports officials from the eight North Eastern states.

During his visit, Mandaviya also inaugurated a multipurpose integrated indoor sports hall in Shillong, stating that the facility would help create new opportunities for young athletes.

Highlighting the Centre’s focus on the region, the minister said the North East has received a significant share of sports infrastructure support, including a large number of Khelo India Centres aimed at strengthening grassroots sports development.
