Drug Peddler Held in South Salmara-Mankachar; Cannabis and Yaba Tablets Seized

South Salmara- Mankachar, June 4: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized a large quantity of cannabis and psychotropic tablets from Assam’s South Salmara-Mankachar district.

The operation was conducted at Kacharipara village, where police apprehended the accused, identified as Soleman Sheikh.

During a search of his residence, officers recovered 2.746 kilograms of cannabis (ganja) along with 400 yaba tablets, which fall under the category of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Following the seizure, Soleman Sheikh was taken into custody for questioning. Investigators are examining the source of the contraband and probing possible links to a wider drug trafficking network operating in the region.

Police have registered a case in connection with the seizure and initiated further investigation. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and curb the circulation of narcotic substances in the district.
