Bodies of Six Alleged Naga Hostages Brought to JNIMS Amid Tension and Clashes in Manipur

Imphal, June 11: The mortal remains of six alleged Naga hostages, who were reportedly abducted on May 13, were brought to the mortuary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Manipur at around 2 am on June 11 following their recovery a day earlier.

Authorities said the six bodies were recovered on June 10 and subsequently transported to JNIMS for post-mortem examination and identification. Officials stated that the identities of the deceased would be established through DNA testing, while post-mortem procedures were scheduled to commence at around 6 am on June 11.

Hundreds of people had gathered at the hospital premises from around 4:30 pm on June 10, waiting for the arrival of the bodies. As the crowd swelled, many mourners expressed grief, anguish and anger over the deaths of the alleged hostages.

The situation later turned tense as confrontations reportedly broke out between members of the public and security personnel deployed at the site. The unrest escalated into violence, prompting security forces to resort to tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Several people, including security personnel, were reportedly injured during the clashes. Following the disturbances, the crowd gradually dispersed and authorities brought the area under control.

A few hours later, the bodies were brought to JNIMS and placed in the mortuary for post-mortem examinations and further identification procedures.

The recovery of the six bodies has triggered widespread concern and renewed calls for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged abduction and killing of the hostages. Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain calm as the identification process and further investigations continue.
