In a coordinated operation carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs, forest personnel and police arrested two suspected poachers from the Agaratoli forest area of Latabari under Difloo Pathar and recovered a handmade firearm along with a motorcycle.

The accused have been identified as Jintu Orang and Sarbang Ronghang.

Officials said the operation was launched after receiving information about the movement of suspected poachers within the Agaratoli forest range. Acting on the tip-off, the joint team conducted a raid and apprehended the two individuals.

During the operation, authorities seized a handmade gun believed to have been intended for illegal hunting activities. A two-wheeler allegedly used by the accused was also recovered and taken into custody.

Forest department officials said an investigation has been initiated to determine whether the duo had any links to previous poaching cases and to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the illegal activities.

The operation is part of continuing efforts by the Forest Department and police to combat poaching and reinforce wildlife protection measures in and around the Kaziranga landscape.
