Garima Saikia Garg, wife of late singer Zubeen Garg, visited Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur on Saturday to observe Bishnu Rabha Divas and pay homage to freedom fighter and cultural icon Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

Addressing reporters, Garima said Zubeen Garg had always been deeply inspired by the ideals and legacy of Rabha and would have celebrated the occasion in his own way had he been alive.

She said the renowned singer drew constant inspiration from the cultural stalwart and that efforts are being made to uphold the values and ideology he cherished. According to her, the commemorative programme at Zubeen Kshetra included music and recitations dedicated to Rabha’s legacy.

The event featured a series of cultural activities reflecting the lasting influence of Bishnu Prasad Rabha on Assamese society and culture.

Earlier in the day, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid tribute to Rabha, describing him as one of the leading figures of greater Assamese society whose contributions extended beyond the cultural sphere and touched several important social issues. The Chief Minister also conferred state awards on distinguished personalities in recognition of their contributions.

She said the Special Investigation Team had already filed a charge sheet against the accused and voiced hope that the court would ultimately deliver a clear verdict based on the available evidence and witness testimonies.

She further stated that although attempts had been made by the accused to obtain bail, the prosecution had opposed the pleas. According to her, the Advocate General had presented the reasons against granting bail, and she expressed confidence in the efforts being made by the prosecution.
