Dhubri, June 23: Seven persons were arrested in Assam’s Dhubri district after police allegedly caught them slaughtering cattle illegally during a raid conducted on Tuesday.
Acting on specific information, a team from Dhubri Police Station carried out an operation at Modergola in Jhagrarpar Part-IV, located behind the railway line under the police station’s jurisdiction. During the raid, police reportedly found the accused engaged in illegal cattle slaughter activities.
The operation led to the seizure of the carcass of a slaughtered cow, around 90 kilograms of suspected beef and several implements believed to have been used in the slaughtering process.
The arrested individuals were identified as Jahan Uddin (50), Rohim Uddin (26), Hatem Ali (50), Marjur Ali (49), Hashem Ali (25), Nurul Islam (36) and Rofiqul Islam (30). All of them are residents of areas under the jurisdiction of Dhubri Police Station.
Police have registered a case and initiated legal action against the accused.
Investigators are also probing possible links between the arrested persons and a larger network allegedly involved in illegal cattle slaughter activities in the region. Further investigation is in progress.
