Two Children Drown in Pond in Nagaon’s Kachua

Nagaon, June 24: A tragic drowning incident involving two young children was reported from Kachua in Assam’s Nagaon district, raising concerns over child safety during the monsoon season.

The incident occurred at Haldhibari village, where two girls from the same household reportedly drowned after accidentally falling into an unfenced pond near their residence while playing.

The deceased were identified as Ayesha Siddika (5), daughter of Kamal Uddin, and Somaya Akhtar (6), daughter of Jamal Uddin. Both were residents of Haldhibari village.

According to reports, the children had been playing near their home when they fell into the pond. Family members began searching for them after noticing their absence and later discovered their bodies floating in the water.

Upon receiving information, Kachua Police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Nagaon for post-mortem examination.

Both children were students of Lutumari Parijat Academy in Kachua. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village and surrounding areas.

With the rainy season underway, residents have been urged to exercise caution and ensure close supervision of children near ponds, rivers and other water bodies to prevent similar incidents.
