Tinsukia, June 26: The process for preparing and revising electoral rolls for the forthcoming Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) general elections has commenced in Assam’s Tinsukia district after the Assam State Election Commission issued the necessary notification.
The electoral roll revision is being undertaken under Rule 16 of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (Election) Rules, 2010, with January 1, 2026, fixed as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.
The revision exercise will cover six SKAC constituencies in Tinsukia district—Sadiya, Chabua, Dangari, Dirak Chumoni, Tinsukia and Burhi Dihing. In accordance with the government’s delimitation notification, only the “Sonowal part” of villages will be considered for inclusion in the electoral rolls.
Officials said the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will revise the voter lists by taking the council electoral roll published on November 17, 2025, as the base document and synchronising it with the latest Assembly electoral roll released on February 10, 2026. A draft electoral roll will be published once the revision process is completed.
The district administration stated that preliminary activities are being carried out from June 23 to June 28, while the actual preparation and revision of the rolls will continue from June 29 to July 9. The draft electoral roll is scheduled for publication on July 10.
Voters will be able to submit claims and objections until July 25. All such applications will be examined and disposed of by August 1, after which the final electoral roll for the 2026 SKAC elections will be published on August 3.
The district administration has urged eligible voters in all six constituencies to verify their names in the draft electoral roll once it is published and submit applications for inclusion or correction, if necessary, within the prescribed timeframe.
