Sonitpur, June 29: The 25th Biennial Conference of the Sonitpur District Higher Secondary Teachers’ and Employees’ Association was held at Tezpur Academy Higher Secondary School, bringing together teachers and employees from higher secondary institutions across the district to review organisational activities and chart future plans.
The conference began with the hoisting of the association’s flag by outgoing District President Shashi Upadhyay, followed by a memorial tribute to departed members who had contributed to the organisation over the years. The tribute programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Association Vice-President Milan Dutta.
As part of the event, a Nahor sapling was planted in memory of noted Assamese singer Zubeen Garg by Prabin Kataki, Headmaster of Bihaguri Girls’ Middle English School.
The delegates’ meeting commenced at 10 a.m. with participation from nearly 60 representatives representing 18 higher secondary schools across Sonitpur district. During the session, members reviewed the association’s work during the previous term and deliberated on its future programmes and organisational priorities.
Following the conclusion of the delegates’ meeting, outgoing President Shashi Upadhyay and General Secretary Buddhinath Mishra formally demitted office. A new 18-member executive committee was unanimously elected, with Binita Sut, Postgraduate Teacher of Chandranath Sharma Higher Secondary School, assuming charge as President, while Kartik Kalita, Postgraduate Teacher of Bihaguri Higher Secondary School, was elected General Secretary.
The afternoon open session was attended by General Secretary of the All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers’ and Employees’ Association, Jatin Deka, as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he offered suggestions aimed at strengthening the organisation and improving its functioning.
District Planning Officer of Sonitpur and Regional Secretary of the Assam State School Education Board, Krishnakanta Deka, attended the programme as the guest of honour. He acknowledged the association’s contribution to the smooth conduct of public examinations in the district and encouraged members to continue extending similar support in the future.
During the programme, the association also released its biennial souvenir, Alach, edited by Binita Sut. The publication was formally unveiled by Pranab Das, General Secretary of the Kamrup District Higher Secondary Teachers’ and Employees’ Association.
The conference also felicitated the three girl students from Sonitpur district who secured the highest marks in this year’s Higher Secondary Final Examination. The event concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem.
