Goods Trucks Resume Movement to Manipur Under Police Escort After Border Disruption

The movement of goods-laden trucks on the Assam–Manipur border resumed on Monday under police escort after hundreds of vehicles remained stranded for several days due to security concerns.

According to reports, trucks transporting food grains, essential commodities and other supplies from different parts of the country had been halted along the Assam–Manipur border road, resulting in long queues of vehicles and disrupting the supply of goods to Manipur.

Truck drivers and helpers alleged that they were stranded for several days without adequate food, safe drinking water or medical facilities. Many reportedly depended on water from nearby hill streams for survival, raising concerns over health and hygiene. The prolonged delay also caused perishable goods to deteriorate inside parked vehicles, while transporters and traders suffered financial losses due to disrupted deliveries. Drivers said the uncertainty had placed both mental and economic pressure on those stranded.

The stranded transport workers appealed to the authorities to restore normal traffic and provide immediate relief, including food, drinking water, medical assistance and other basic necessities.

Observers cautioned that any prolonged disruption along the border route could have serious consequences for the transportation network and the supply of essential commodities to Manipur.

On Monday morning, authorities began allowing goods-laden trucks to proceed towards Manipur under police protection to ensure their safe passage and prevent any attacks or damage to the vehicles during transit.
