Assam Minister Keshab Mahanta on August 9 visited several flood-affected areas under the Samaguri Revenue Circle in Nagaon district to assess the situation and review relief measures.
Mahanta visited Goru Mara, Bhomora Guri and Era Kalong, among other affected areas, where he interacted with residents and took stock of the extent of inundation and the assistance being provided to affected families.
The minister also visited temporary relief camps and spoke with displaced residents to assess the availability of essential supplies and other support.
During his visit to Kalapani village, Mahanta announced that a highland would be constructed on vacant land to provide residents with a safe elevated space during floods and offer greater convenience to the local community.
He also said several areas of the Kaliabor constituency remained inundated, particularly near the confluence of the Diju river and a channel of the Kolong river.
Mahanta said the government would hold discussions with local residents and review the possibility of constructing an embankment in vulnerable areas to address recurring flooding.
His visit came as several parts of Nagaon continued to remain affected by floodwaters, with authorities intensifying relief distribution and damage assessment efforts.
