Rising waters of the Missa Juri have severely affected farming communities in Kaliabor, with large areas of agricultural land remaining submerged for nearly a week.
Extensive stretches of farmland in Barpeta Dalani and Barpeta Habi Pathar under the Kaliabor Revenue Circle are currently under waist-deep water. Paddy saplings planted across hundreds of bighas have been inundated by the swelling river, raising concerns over the fate of the standing crop.
The prolonged flooding has left local farmers worried as their paddy fields have remained underwater for around a week, putting the upcoming harvest at serious risk.
Residents said the flooding has affected the agricultural prospects of around 200 farmers who were expecting to harvest their paddy in the coming months.
With the water yet to recede significantly, farmers fear that continued submergence could cause extensive crop losses and deepen their financial difficulties.
The affected farmers have urged the authorities to take immediate measures to drain the accumulated water and provide necessary assistance to those whose crops have been damaged by the flooding.
