Duliajan, August 13: The Dibrugarh district committee of the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) has urged Oil India Limited (OIL) to investigate allegations that some doctors at OIL Hospital, Duliajan, were collecting fees from patients outside the prescribed payment system.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Residential Officer of OIL, Duliajan, the organisation said patients were required to pay consultation fees online and complete registration before consulting doctors. Against this procedure, ATASU alleged that some doctors had been collecting additional money directly from patients.
The organisation said it had received complaints about such alleged fee collection and questioned how unauthorised payments could be sought from patients, particularly those from economically weaker sections.
ATASU said it had consistently supported OIL’s operations in the oil-producing areas while raising concerns whenever allegations of irregularities involving the company’s officials or employees surfaced.
The students’ body demanded an inquiry into the allegations and appropriate action against any doctor, officer or employee found violating the prescribed rules. It sought action within three days and said documentary evidence supporting the allegations had been enclosed with the memorandum.
ATASU said it would make additional evidence public if required. The memorandum was signed by Dibrugarh district committee president Harekrishna Saikia and general secretary Rupam Gogoi.
