MON: The Purvanchal Bhikkhu Sangha, a Buddhist monks’ organisation from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, distributed relief materials among families affected by a landslide at Kongan village in Nagaland’s Mon district on August 23.
The relief initiative, supported by Swiss devotee Monica Thaddey, was organised to assist residents affected by the landslide that struck the village on July 24 and blocked roads in the area.
Essential commodities were distributed among more than 170 affected households.
Purvanchal Bhikkhu Sangha General Secretary Nyanaloka Bhikkhu said the organisation had earlier visited flood-affected villages in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts to distribute relief materials before travelling to Kongan.
He urged people to come forward to support those affected by floods and landslides in Assam and Nagaland, saying humanity was greater than religion.
A senior member of the Konyak Naga community expressed gratitude for the assistance and said the support would be remembered by the affected community.
