More than 50 families were affected after water flowing down from the Karbi Hills inundated residential areas in Bhatabari of Bamuni in Assam’s Kaliabor following incessant rainfall since Tuesday night, September 22.
The heavy rain led to a sudden rise in water flow from the hill areas, inundating homes and agricultural fields in the locality. Several houses were submerged, with floodwater reportedly reaching knee level inside some residences.
Residents said they were forced to leave their homes and take shelter along roads and other elevated areas as the water level continued to rise.
The flooding also damaged agricultural fields and resulted in the loss of livestock belonging to several families, adding to the difficulties faced by residents.
According to local residents, the area witnessed flooding after nearly 15 years.
Authorities were monitoring the situation as water continued to affect residential and agricultural areas in the locality.
