Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited Patkijuli High School and the Sashastra Seema Bal’s (SSB) Border Outpost Daranga in Tamulpur district on Saturday, taking part in student welfare activities and interacting with border security personnel.
At Patkijuli High School, the Governor visited a medical health and welfare programme and a millets stall organised by the SSB. He joined students in a tree plantation drive, distributed books and sports equipment, and attended a cultural programme. He also flagged off an educational tour for 20 local students sponsored by the SSB’s 64th Battalion.
The Governor later visited Border Outpost Daranga, where he received a Guard of Honour and participated in a plantation drive on the premises. At a Sainik Sammelan, Inspector General of SSB’s Guwahati Frontier Sudhir Verma briefed him on the Frontier’s operational activities, achievements and welfare measures for border residents.
Acharya also joined SSB personnel for Bada Khana, a traditional communal meal symbolising unity and camaraderie among members of the force.
The visit focused on strengthening ties between the SSB and border communities, while promoting education, healthcare, environmental conservation and public welfare. Verma expressed his gratitude to the Governor for visiting the school and the outpost.
Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary, Bodoland Territorial Council Executive Member Ganesh Kachari, local MLA Victor Das, Tamulpur’s Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, SSB Deputy Inspector General Manoj Kumar, and Commandants Neeraj Chand and Anuj Kumar were among those present.
