Meghalaya Police have sought public assistance to identify a scooter rider involved in a hit-and-run accident in Shillong after footage of the collision circulated widely on social media.
The incident occurred at around 11.22 pm on November 1 at SD Khongwir Junction in Mawlai Iewrynghep, East Khasi Hills district. According to a press release issued by the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police on November 6, a Bolero pick-up truck struck an oncoming scooter before leaving the spot without stopping.
The video showed the scooter rider getting back on their feet following the impact. However, police said the extent of the rider’s injuries was not known.
As the incident had not been reported to the Traffic Branch, police appealed to the victim and anyone who witnessed the collision or had information about the vehicle or its driver to contact the Mawlai Traffic Branch. The information would help establish the rider’s identity and initiate legal proceedings against the driver.
Information can be shared at 69093 96417 or 60091 96479. Police assured informants that their identities would be kept confidential.
