Gossaigaon: In a renewed push for the long-pending demand of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Koch Rajbongshi community and the re-establishment of Kamatapur state, the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) has announced a series of protest programmes across Assam. The decision was made public during a press conference held today at the Gossaigaon Press Club.
Addressing the media, AKRSU President Dipen Roy alleged that both the Central and State Governments have continuously deceived the Koch Rajbongshi people with false promises. He declared that the organisation would carry out a phase-wise agitation in six districts of Assam to press their long-standing demands. As per the schedule, mass public rallies will be carried out at Dhubri, Nagaon, Kokrajhar, Dhemaji, Udalguri and in Barpeta on November 13, 16, 20, 23 & 24.
Roy asserted that no government so far has fulfilled the Koch Rajbongshi community’s aspirations for ST recognition. “The BJP government has also failed to honour its commitments. Our faith in their promises has completely eroded,” he said. Roy warned that if the government does not grant ST status to the Koch Rajbongshis before the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections, the community would bar ministers and political leaders from entering Koch Rajbongshi-dominated areas and would withdraw all forms of cooperation.

He further alleged that despite repeated assurances, the government has done nothing concrete to address the community’s grievances. “We no longer trust empty promises. This time, our movement will continue until our demands are met,” Roy added.
Addressing the media, Joint General Secretary Sunadhar Roy stated that AKRASU’s agitation had entered its final phase. He announced that the organisation is preparing for railway blockades, national highway closures, and protest demonstrations in Dispur and New Delhi if the government continues to ignore their demands. He further mentioned that after the initial phase of protests in six districts, similar programmes would be extended to other parts of the state.
“This time, a direct confrontation between the government and AKRASU is inevitable,” Sunadhar Roy warned. The press conference was attended by several senior leaders, including Central President Dipen Roy, Joint General Secretaries Sunadhar Roy and Arbind Das, Working President Mukul Krishna Barman, Sunil Roy, Hareshwar Roy (former General Secretary, KLO Coordination Committee), Central Secretary Hemanta Barman, and Advisor Biswajit Barman.
The event was jointly organised by AKRASU and the former KLO Coordination Committee, underscoring a renewed alliance to intensify the Koch Rajbongshi movement for identity, recognition, and justice.
