Bajali: In a major cultural and tourism initiative, the Assam government has announced plans to promote the state’s world-renowned Raas Mahotsav, the annual festival dedicated to Lord Krishna, to a global audience. The government will soon create a special tourism circuit connecting the key Raas celebration centres — Majuli, Palasbari, Nalbari, Patacharkuchi, and Pathsala — to attract both domestic and international tourists.
The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass during the inauguration of a new Krishna temple at Pathsala. Speaking on the occasion, Dass said that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the government has been extending financial assistance to Raas Mahotsav committees across the state to strengthen festival infrastructure and enhance outreach.

The newly inaugurated Shree Krishna temple at Pathsala, constructed at a cost of ₹2 crore, is expected to serve as a new cultural and spiritual attraction for visitors. “In Assam, we try to recreate the divine aura of Brindaban during Raas Mahotsav,” Dass explained. “While Upper Assam celebrates the festival with live enactments of Raaslila, Lower Assam showcases beautiful clay idols depicting episodes from Lord Krishna’s life.”
Highlighting Assam’s spiritual and cultural heritage, Dass noted that Majuli has already gained international recognition for its Raas festivities, and the government now aims to bring similar prominence to celebrations in Lower Assam.
“Assam is the sacred land of Lord Krishna and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva,” Dass said. “Through these initiatives, we aim to make Raas Mahotsav a globally recognized cultural and tourism hub — a celebration that connects Assam’s spiritual legacy with the world.”
