Arunachal Rang Mahotsav, regarded as the Northeast’s biggest theatre festival, commenced its 15-day schedule at the DK Convention Centre with artists and directors from ten countries participating in its third international edition.
During the inaugural event, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said the state continued to build its theatre culture but was witnessing notable progress as young performers gained confidence and international partnerships expanded. He acknowledged director Riken Ngomle for helping the festival achieve global visibility and remarked that it had now become the most prominent theatre platform in the region. He also credited actor and festival ambassador Adil Hussain for motivating emerging talent.
Tourism Minister P.D. Sona welcomed the delegates and recalled that the revival of theatre in the state began four years earlier during the Legislative Assembly’s 50-year celebration. He said that milestone triggered the start of what he termed “Arunachal Ek Safarnama”, which has since encouraged cultural and youth-driven activities across music, theatre, sports and fashion.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed appreciation for Ngomle’s leadership in shaping the rapid progress of the event and described the festival as a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted the participation of international theatre groups and said the state’s youth possessed strong creative potential. He assured continued government support to initiatives that promote artistic growth and provide platforms for young performers.
