Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has been presented with the Silver Elephant Award, the most distinguished national honour conferred by the Bharat Scouts & Guides. The award was officially handed over on Friday during the organisation’s 60th-anniversary celebration, which coincided with the 19th National Jamboree held in Lucknow. The significant event was attended by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
The accompanying citation for the award specifically highlighted Lalduhoma’s “Most Exceptional Service to the Movement,” recognising his profound dedication to both youth development and broader community service initiatives. Upon accepting the honour, the Chief Minister expressed his profound gratitude, stating he was “deeply honoured and humbled.” He further noted that the award was a reflection of the collective spirit of the Mizo people, who are widely respected for their discipline, unity, and enduring culture of voluntary service.
Lalduhoma took the opportunity to commend the Scout leaders, mentors, and volunteers throughout India for their steadfast commitment to the empowerment of young people. He stressed the crucial role of the Scouts and Guides movement in cultivating essential values such as discipline, self-reliance, leadership, and robust character—qualities he believes are vital for young citizens in a nation experiencing rapid development.
Reaffirming the State’s continuous support for the organisation, the Chief Minister committed that schools, local communities, and the Mizoram government would remain dedicated to fostering youth engagement and promoting the principles of responsible citizenship. This prestigious recognition makes Lalduhoma the eighth person from Mizoram to be honoured with the Silver Elephant Award. The first recipient from the State was the late Hrangthanga in 2000, followed by Lalrosangi in 2017, marking this as another noteworthy achievement for Mizoram within the national scouting movement.
