Manipur Police intensified their crackdown on narcotics and illegal arms with two separate operations on December 13, 2025, leading to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the recovery of a large cache of weapons and ammunition.
In the first operation, police arrested 47-year-old Baseimayum Yaibi from Porompat Pangal Leirak in Imphal East district. Acting under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station, the team recovered seven soap cases of Heroin No. 4 from his possession. Officials described the seizure as significant, noting that heroin trafficking continues to remain a major challenge for law enforcement agencies in the state.
On the same day, security forces carried out a recovery operation in Moltinchan Village under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district, where they unearthed a substantial stockpile of firearms and explosives. The recovered weapons included an SLR rifle without a magazine, a locally made bolt-action sniper rifle with an empty magazine, a double-barrelled breech-loading firearm, a single-barrelled breech-loading weapon, and a locally manufactured pistol.
The operation also led to the recovery of one 36 HE hand grenade without a detonator, an empty 7.62 LMG magazine, three tube launchers, 15 rounds of SLR ammunition, five stun shells and one 51mm HE bomb.
Police officials said both actions were part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle illegal arms networks operating in the state. Investigations are continuing to trace the source of the seized contraband and weapons, and to identify any wider links connected to the two cases.
