Guwahati, Jan 8: Dispur is set to host the 12th Inter-District Roller Skating Championship 2025–26 from January 10, with organisers introducing a distinctive theme that links sports with agriculture under the banner “From Turf to Table.” The two-day event will take place at the Dispur Skating Rink and is expected to bring together young skating talent from across Assam.
The championship is being organised by the national NGO APRINS (Action Plan for Rural Innovation and National Services) in collaboration with the Assam Roller Skating Association. Competitions will begin at 3 pm on the opening day, with around 300 skaters from districts such as Kamrup, Guwahati, Chandrapur, Sonapur, Kamrup Metro, Nalbari, Doomdooma, Makum, Naharkatia, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Nagaon and Duliajan set to participate. Skaters will compete in multiple age categories, ranging from under-5 to above-14.
Speaking at a press conference at the Guwahati Press Club on January 7, APRINS chairman Chandan Borthakur and secretary Urmimala Mahanta said the event aims to go beyond competition by promoting awareness about agriculture-based livelihoods alongside athletic development. Officials from the Assam Roller Skating Association, including Anupam Sharma, Bhumidhar Barman and Samir Basfor, shared details on participation and arrangements for the championship.
The prize structure includes Rs 30,600 for the champion, Rs 18,000 for the first runner-up and Rs 9,000 for the second runner-up. Special awards will also be presented, including Rs 1,800 each for the most talented boy and girl skater, Rs 6,003 for the best disciplined district and Rs 6,003 for the best coach. In addition, 12 Assam skaters who have represented India at the national level will be felicitated during the event.
Organisers said the championship is designed to provide high-quality competitive exposure to young skaters in the state while encouraging broader social awareness. Entry forms and further information are available through the organising committee at +91 93953 79433.
APRINS has been actively involved in sports promotion since 2009, alongside its work in agriculture and agro-tourism. From hosting the All Assam Inter-District Football Tournament in 2012–13 to organising the current skating championship, the organisation has consistently focused on youth engagement and rural development through sports.
