Assamese Singer Samar Hazarika Passes Away, Leaves Rich Musical Legacy

Guwahati, Jan 13: Renowned Assamese singer Samar Hazarika, younger brother of legendary music icon Bhupen Hazarika, passed away on January 13, leaving the state’s cultural fraternity in deep mourning on the occasion of Uruka. He breathed his last at his residence in Nijorapara, Guwahati, at around 8:45 am after a prolonged illness. He had earlier been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

Samar Hazarika began his musical journey in 1960 and went on to carve a distinct identity for himself in Assam’s music industry. Over the decades, he lent his voice to several Assamese films and released numerous albums, earning admiration for his melodious singing and creative depth.

Tributes poured in from cultural enthusiasts, artistes and admirers, who remembered him as a humble and dedicated musician whose songs continue to evoke nostalgia. Many noted that his contribution significantly enriched Assam’s musical heritage.

While his demise has created an irreplaceable void in the state’s music world, Samar Hazarika’s timeless compositions are expected to live on, inspiring future generations and keeping his legacy alive in the hearts of music lovers.
