NFR records 8.4% rise in freight loading

Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has registered a notable growth in freight transportation, reflecting increasing economic activity across the region. During December 2025, NFR achieved a total freight loading of 0.952 million tonnes (MT), marking an 8.4 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. According to official data, the cumulative freight loading up to December of the current financial year stood at 8.250 million tonnes, surpassing last year’s figure of 7.729 million tonnes for the same period and registering an overall growth of 6.7 per cent. The steady rise underscores NFR’s continued efforts to ensure efficient movement of goods and timely delivery of essential commodities to end users.

Several key commodities recorded significant growth during December 2025. Cement loading witnessed a sharp rise of 148 per cent, while fertiliser loading surged by 350 per cent, indicating higher demand from agricultural and infrastructure sectors. Dolomite loading increased by 14.6 per cent, and container traffic grew by 13.3 per cent, highlighting improved logistics and trade movement. In the ‘Others’ category, stone chips loading rose by an impressive 92.6 per cent, and miscellaneous commodities recorded a growth of 350 per cent, pointing towards increased construction and allied activities across the Northeast.

Officials stated that the consistent growth in freight loading has not only strengthened the regional economy but also contributed significantly to NFR’s revenue. NFR remains focused on adopting technological advancements and operational improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability and customer satisfaction, aiming to sustain this positive growth trend in freight transportation in the coming months.
