Manipur Police Arrest KCP (Apunba) Cadre in Imphal West Amid Intensified Security Operations

Imphal, Jan 31: Security forces in Manipur have arrested an active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba) during a targeted operation in Imphal West district, officials confirmed on January 30. The arrest is part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts aimed at curbing militant activity and maintaining public order across the state.

The arrested individual has been identified as 25-year-old Khaidem Ajitkumar Singh, also known by the aliases Adison and Abai. He is a resident of Heinoupok Maning Leirak under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station. Security personnel apprehended him from his local area, and a mobile phone was recovered from his possession during the operation.

The arrest comes as security forces continue to step up surveillance and enforcement measures across Manipur. Authorities have been conducting coordinated search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable locations spanning several districts, with the objective of preventing militant movement and reassuring civilians amid a sensitive security environment.

As part of the heightened vigilance, officials said 114 nakas and checkpoints were established across both hill and valley districts of the state. These measures were described as preventive in nature, and no additional detentions were reported during the checks.

In parallel, security forces ensured the smooth movement of essential supplies by escorting 218 vehicles carrying commodities along National Highway-37. Officials said strict security arrangements were enforced along all sensitive stretches, with armed convoys deployed to guarantee the uninterrupted and safe transportation of goods, underlining the authorities’ focus on maintaining normalcy and protecting vital supply lines.
