Guwahati, Jan 31: The All Dibrugarh Students’ Union (ADSU) held its Executive Committee Meeting along with the Agenda Selection Meeting on January 28 at the Lalchand Kanai Auditorium of Hanumanbax Surajmal Kanai College in Dibrugarh, drawing participation from a large cross-section of student representatives across the district. The strong turnout reflected active engagement within the organisation and underscored its continued relevance in student and civic affairs.
The programme commenced at 11 am with ADSU president Tanuj Haloi unfurling the union flag, followed by a homage to martyrs led by general secretary Papu Saikia. The opening proceedings set a solemn and purposeful tone, highlighting the union’s emphasis on unity, values and collective responsibility.
During the day-long deliberations, members discussed a range of social, cultural and educational issues impacting students and the wider community in Dibrugarh. Conversations focused on strengthening educational infrastructure, enhancing student welfare, preserving cultural identity and addressing civic challenges such as sanitation and public amenities. Delegates also stressed the importance of constructive engagement with local authorities to ensure that student-oriented concerns are effectively addressed.
Presided over by president Tanuj Haloi, the meeting concluded with the unanimous adoption of four resolutions aimed at addressing key student and civic issues in Dibrugarh town. These resolutions are expected to guide the union’s activities in the coming months and serve as a framework for sustained engagement on priority concerns.
The Agenda Selection Meeting held alongside the main session led to the formation of a new ADSU committee. Senior leaders Rupjyoti Borthakur, Raja Gogoi, Manoj Burhagohain, Rituraj Mili, Tanuj Haloi and Papu Saikia were appointed as advisors to provide guidance and continuity to the new leadership. A 60-member committee was constituted, with Priyapratim Sonowal named president and Sandam Sonowal appointed general secretary.
The event was attended by All Assam Students’ Union organising secretary Bulbul Dutta, AASU central executive member Sauravjyoti Barphukan and district-level student leaders including Labdhapratim Das, Bitupan Changmai and Dibrugarh District Students’ Union general secretary Bitupan Gogoi, highlighting coordination among various student bodies.
More than 700 students from schools, colleges and primary students’ unions across Dibrugarh took part in the meeting, reflecting strong grassroots participation. The large turnout showcased ADSU’s organisational strength and its ability to mobilise students in shaping discussions around education and civic development in the district.
