MP Dilip Saikia Slams Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha Disrupted

Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Dilip Saikia on February 2, launched a sharp attack on Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks during the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, accusing him of deliberately disrupting parliamentary proceedings and misleading the nation on sensitive national security matters. Reacting to the developments in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Budget Session, Saikia alleged that the issues raised by Gandhi had no direct link to the President’s constitutional address. He claimed that the Congress leader’s intervention was aimed at creating confusion and diverting attention from the subject under discussion.

“The issues raised by Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi are completely unrelated to the President’s address. He is deliberately trying to mislead the people of the country and disrupt parliamentary decorum,” Saikia said. The BJP MP further alleged that such remarks from a senior opposition leader were irresponsible and risked lowering the morale of the armed forces at a time when national security demands unity and restraint.

Saikia’s comments came in the wake of chaotic scenes in Parliament earlier in the day when proceedings were repeatedly interrupted after Rahul Gandhi attempted to quote from an unpublished book by former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh objected to the reference, questioning the authenticity and publication status of the book. Home Minister Amit Shah and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also raised objections, citing parliamentary rules that prohibit references to unpublished or unauthenticated material. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla upheld the objections, prompting protests from opposition members. The standoff led to repeated disruptions, and after nearly 45 minutes of disorder, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 3 pm. Senior ministers later met the Speaker to review the situation.
