The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has started preparations for the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election and indicated that it will field a strong candidate after internal consultations, party General Secretary Rafiqul Islam said.
Speaking on the political developments surrounding the constituency, Islam said the by-election was necessitated by the resignation of Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi and his subsequent joining of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He said the party has already begun groundwork at the grassroots level in view of the forthcoming electoral contest.
According to Islam, a final decision on the candidate will be taken after discussions within the party leadership following the return of the AIUDF president.
Highlighting the party’s priorities, he said the AIUDF remains committed to raising issues related to Assam’s development in Parliament, with particular emphasis on concerns affecting minority communities.
Islam also questioned the practice of elected representatives changing political affiliations after securing public mandates and appealed to voters to extend their support to the AIUDF in the upcoming by-election.
