GUWAHATI, May 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the state government is intensifying efforts to strengthen road and bridge infrastructure across Assam with a focus on improving connectivity, enhancing trade opportunities and promoting ease of living and ease of doing business.
Sharing an update on social media platform X, the Chief Minister said that major road construction works are progressing under the Asom Mala 2.0 initiative, with nearly 1,000 kilometres of roads currently under development across the state.
Sarma stated that the infrastructure drive is aimed at expanding connectivity deep into villages and towns while creating a stronger transportation network to support economic activities. “Assam is building an extensive network of roads to improve connectivity, boost trade and ensure Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business. Just under Asom Mala 2.0, close to 1,000 km of roads are in various stages of progress, deep in Assam’s villages and towns,” he posted.
According to details shared by the Chief Minister, a total of 996.7 kilometres of roads are presently being developed across more than 27 districts under the programme.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office also highlighted progress in several key bridge projects being implemented across the state. The projects are intended to provide seamless all-weather connectivity and improve movement between regions.
Among the major projects underway, the Subansiri and Luit bridges connecting Majuli and Lakhimpur have reached 61 per cent completion. The Pagladiya Bridge in Baksa has achieved 65 per cent progress, while construction of the Ghunasuti Bridge in Lakhimpur has reached 45 per cent completion.
Officials stated that once completed, the bridge projects are expected to significantly reduce travel time, strengthen regional links and create new opportunities for business growth and economic development across Assam.
