Karbi Anglong, June 4: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 3 hailed a major anti-drug operation conducted by police in Karbi Anglong, in which 13.482 kilograms of opium valued at nearly ₹1 crore was seized and five persons were arrested.
Sharing details of the operation on social media platform X, the Chief Minister reiterated the state’s firm stance against narcotics trafficking and praised the efforts of the police force.
“Drugs have no safe passage through Assam. In a successful operation, Karbi Anglong Police seized 13.482 kg of opium worth nearly ₹1 crore at Dillai Gate and apprehended five persons,” Sarma said.
The operation was carried out by Karbi Anglong Police at Dillai Gate as part of Assam’s ongoing drive against the illegal transportation and trade of narcotics. The seizure is being viewed as a significant success in the state’s sustained campaign to curb drug smuggling.
The five accused have been taken into custody, and investigators are now working to trace the source of the contraband and determine its intended destination. Police are also probing possible links to a wider trafficking network.
Congratulating the police personnel involved in the operation, the Chief Minister commended their efforts in preventing narcotics from moving through the state. The latest seizure adds to a series of anti-drug operations conducted across Assam under the government’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, popularly highlighted through the #AssamAgainstDrugs initiative.
