Assam’s Abhilasha Chakraborty Wins in Four Categories at National Music Contest

Guwahati, May 29: Fifteen-year-old Abhilasha Chakraborty from Assam has earned national recognition after winning prizes in all four categories she participated in at the ‘Laylahari’ All India Offline Talent Search Music Contest held in Kolkata.

The national-level competition, organised by the Swami Vivekananda Foundation of Art & Culture on May 16 and 17, witnessed participation from contestants from different parts of the country. The results were announced on Thursday.

Abhilasha secured awards in the semi-classical, Rabindra Sangeet, Khayal and Bhajan categories, marking a significant achievement for the young singer from Guwahati.

She is the daughter of journalist Arup Chakraborty and Barnali Chakraborty and is currently studying in Class XI at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara.

Family members said Abhilasha developed an interest in music at an early age and has continued rigorous training alongside her academic studies. Her dedication to regular practice and focus on sur, taal and laya have helped her prepare for larger competitive platforms.

The guidance of mentors from the Ustad Rashid Khan Academy has also played an important role in shaping her musical journey. Her family said the encouragement of teachers, mentors and well-wishers has strengthened her pursuit of music and inspired her to continue striving for excellence at the national level.
