BJP Responds After Gauhati High Court Rejects Pawan Khera’s Anticipatory Bail Plea

National, April 24: The Gauhati High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea filed by Congress leader Pawan Khera in connection with a case linked to allegations involving Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife.

Reacting to the ruling, BJP National Spokesperson Nalin Kohli said that Khera, as a senior political figure, should have verified the authenticity of documents before making public allegations. He stated that the documents cited did not meet the standard of credible evidence, prompting the Chief Minister and his wife to file a First Information Report.

Kohli further alleged that the accusations were based on forged documents and described them as “scandalous”, particularly as they were made during an ongoing electoral process. He added that while Khera had exercised his legal right by seeking anticipatory bail, the court, after hearing the matter, found no merit in his submissions.

“The judge considered the case from a legal standpoint rather than a political one and dismissed the application,” Kohli said, adding that Khera would now be required to cooperate with the investigation.

The case originates from allegations made by Khera against the Chief Minister and his wife, which were subsequently contested, leading to legal proceedings and the registration of an FIR.
