Nagaon: The carcass of a wild female elephant was found at Lengteng No 2 Basti in Kaliabor early this morning. According to locals, the elephant is suspected to have been electrocuted after unidentified miscreants allegedly connected the animal to a live power line. The incident has sparked anger and grief among residents.

A section of concerned local people rushed to the spot after discovering the carcass. Officials from the Salna Forest Department also arrived at the scene and have begun an investigation into the incident. Forest officials said they are examining the site for evidence of illegal electric fencing or traps. A post-mortem will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death. Locals have demanded strict action against those responsible for the death of the elephant, citing repeated incidents of human-wildlife conflict in the area.
