Dhubri Police Bust Alleged Bike Theft Racket, Arrest Two and Recover Stolen Vehicles and Cash

Dhubri, June 9: In a significant breakthrough against vehicle theft in Assam’s Dhubri district, Dhubri Sadar Police have dismantled an alleged bike theft racket, arrested two suspects and recovered stolen vehicles, cash and several other valuables during a series of raids.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Dhubri Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Pritam Das following a complaint regarding the theft of a motorcycle from the Panchmore area of Dhubri town.

According to police, a motorcycle bearing registration number AS-17-D-2892 was stolen from Panchmore on the night of June 8. Acting promptly on the complaint, investigators traced the case to the residence of Sajid Rousan at Jhagrarpar Part-III.

During a raid at the location, police recovered the stolen motorcycle and detained Rousan. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the theft and disclosed the involvement of another suspect, Rafikul Islam, a resident of Aironjongla Part-III.

Based on the information provided, police conducted a second raid at Rafikul Islam’s residence, where they recovered a large quantity of suspected stolen property. The seized items included two motorcycles, including the stolen vehicle and another bike with a tampered chassis number, three bicycles, several water pumps, bronze utensils, cash amounting to Rs 14,300 and various household articles believed to have been stolen.

Police said Rafikul Islam is suspected to be a habitual offender allegedly linked to multiple theft cases reported in the town.

Both accused have been taken into custody, and all recovered items have been seized in accordance with legal procedures. A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the duo are connected to a larger inter-district vehicle theft network.

Police officials said efforts are continuing to identify other suspects and trace the rightful owners of the recovered property.
