Foundation stones laid for multiple road projects in Assam’s Bokakhat

Guwahati, March 9: Foundation stones for several road construction projects were laid in Bokakhat on March 8 under the SOPD-G scheme of the Public Works (Roads) Department, Government of Assam for the 2025–26 financial year.

The ceremony was led by Atul Bora, Cooperation Minister of Assam and MLA representing Bokakhat. Addressing the gathering, Bora said he had been consistently working to fulfil the aspirations of the people of the constituency and promote overall development.

“As the public representative of Bokakhat, I have been consistently striving to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people of the constituency and to work towards their overall development,” he said.

The projects include the Rongagara Anganwadi Centre to Ujani Rongagara village connecting road under Pub Mahura Gaon Panchayat, the Tikirai Chapori Road under Dusutimukh Panchayat, the Mathaurir to Kemerigaon Road, the Hahchara Mahorichuk connecting road under Disoi Gaon Panchayat, the Ujani Bonkowal Road and the Mirikamiri Road under Uttar Mahura Panchayat.

According to Bora, the projects are part of the state government’s initiative to improve connectivity in rural areas. “Today, under the SOPD-G scheme of the Public Works (Roads) Department, Government of Assam for the financial year 2025–26, I laid the foundation stones for the construction of several roads in Bokakhat,” he said.

The ceremony was attended by Purnima Das, president of the Golaghat Zila Parishad, and Jayanti Loing, president of the Anchalik Panchayat, along with several elected panchayat representatives.

Other attendees included Babul Barhoi, BJP Mandal president, and leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Asom Gana Parishad, including Pranab Chetia and Suren Bori, as well as local residents.

Bora said the road projects would significantly improve connectivity and ease daily transportation for residents. He also urged those involved in the construction work to maintain quality standards and complete the projects within the stipulated timeframe.

Officials said the projects are expected to address connectivity challenges in several localities and support socioeconomic development in the Bokakhat region.
