Guwahati, May 24: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four youths after two motorcycles collided head-on on the Mirza–Palashbari road under Palashbari in Assam during the early hours of Sunday, May 24.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 2 am near Bajrapara amid heavy rainfall. According to reports, five youths were travelling on the two motorcycles when the vehicles crashed into each other with significant impact, throwing all the riders onto the road.
Police personnel from Palashbari Police Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information about the incident and shifted the injured to Mirza hospital for treatment. Doctors declared three of the victims dead upon arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Jyoti Kalita of Majirgaon Baruapara, Nikhil Das of Rongamati Dokanipara and Chandan Jana, a resident of West Bengal.
The two other injured youths, identified as Dipankar Kalita and Arnav Barman, were later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital after sustaining serious injuries.
However, one of the critically injured victims later succumbed to injuries at the hospital on Sunday morning, increasing the death toll to four.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief across the locality, with residents mourning the loss of the young lives.
