Mazbat Police Seize 181.94 Kg of Ganja in Udalguri, One Arrested After Vehicle Interception

Udalguri, June 2: Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police in Mazbat under Assam’s Udalguri district seized a large quantity of suspected cannabis and arrested one person during a late-night operation in the Dimasanga area.

According to police sources, a team from Mazbat Police Station intercepted a car bearing registration number AS01GN1815 during the operation. On noticing the police presence, the driver of the vehicle reportedly fled from the spot, abandoning the car. However, another occupant of the vehicle, identified as Derhasad Boro, a resident of Dimasanga village under Mazbat police station limits, was apprehended on the spot.

In the presence of independent witnesses, the vehicle was thoroughly searched, leading to the recovery of 35 plastic packets containing suspected dry cannabis (ganja). The total weight of the seized contraband was recorded at 181.94 kilograms.

Following the seizure, police initiated further legal proceedings as per provisions of law, while efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver and identify others linked to the trafficking network.

Authorities said the operation marks a significant success in ongoing efforts to curb narcotics smuggling in the region.
