Biswanath Chariali: A tragic road accident that took place on Monday night on the NH 15 four-lane road at Kusumtola in Jamugurihat, where a Swift car plunged into a deep pond after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car bearing registration number ML-10-D-4928, which was travelling from Majuli towards Guwahati, had three occupants. One of them narrowly escaped with his life. The survivor, who was rescued from the water, has been identified as Samik Shur of Meghalaya.

The other two occupants, identified as driver Biky Barman and Babul Kalita, died inside the submerged vehicle. A team from Jamuguri PS and personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and recovered the vehicle from the pond. The bodies of the two deceased were also recovered and taken to the police station for necessary procedures and autopsy.
The exact circumstances that caused the vehicle to veer off the four-lane road and plunge into the pond have not yet been ascertained. However, it is suspected that the accident may have occurred after the driver reportedly fell asleep while driving.
