No-Confidence Motion Filed Against Chapar Municipal Board Leadership in Dhubri

Chapar (Dhubri), June 25: Political instability has intensified within the Chapar Municipal Board in Assam’s Dhubri district after eight ward commissioners jointly submitted a no-confidence motion against Chairperson Beauty Roy and Vice-Chairman Arun Kumar Nag.

The development comes amid escalating internal tensions, just days after the Bilasipara District BJP leadership reportedly intervened in the matter. On June 20, the district party president had issued a formal directive asking both municipal office-bearers to resign within three days, citing complaints and allegations related to administrative functioning.

According to party sources, the directive followed multiple allegations of financial irregularities, corruption and lapses in developmental works undertaken by the municipal board.

However, the situation escalated after both the Chairperson and Vice-Chairman reportedly refused to step down despite the party’s instruction and the expiry of the deadline.

Subsequently, eight ward commissioners formed a united bloc and submitted a written no-confidence motion to the Dhubri District Commissioner Office and the Bilasipara Co-District Commissioner.

In their representation, the commissioners alleged systemic corruption, favouritism and financial discrepancies under the current leadership, and sought immediate administrative intervention. They also called for a floor test to determine whether the present municipal leadership continues to enjoy majority support.

Officials are expected to examine the motion as the political situation within the board continues to unfold.
