Pijush Hazarika Registers Highest Victory Margin in Assam Polls with Landslide Win from Jagiroad

Jagiroad, May 5: Senior BJP leader and Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika emerged as the highest margin winner among all BJP candidates in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, securing a commanding victory from Jagiroad with a margin of 93,584 votes.

According to Election Commission data, Hazarika polled 1,55,129 votes, comfortably defeating Congress candidate Bubul Das, who secured 61,545 votes in what turned out to be a one-sided contest. The result also marked Hazarika’s fourth consecutive win from Jagiroad, reinforcing his political dominance in the constituency.

A close associate of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hazarika has been a prominent figure in the BJP-led government and has played a visible role in advancing infrastructure and connectivity projects in the region. Among the key developments linked to his tenure is the Jagi Bhakatgaon Bridge over the Kapili River, connecting Morigaon and Jagiroad. The project, completed earlier this year, addressed a long-pending demand and significantly improved transportation links.

The Jagiroad region has also seen accelerated development in recent years, including work on the railway flyover and progress related to the Tata Semiconductor Project, which is expected to boost industrial growth and economic activity in the area.

Hazarika began his electoral career in 2011 from Raha before shifting to Jagiroad, and has since held several important portfolios, including Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, and Information & Public Relations.

His decisive victory comes amid a broader electoral success for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, which has returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership.
