National, May 6: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on May 6 renewed his allegations of “vote theft” against the Bharatiya Janata Party, days after the party recorded significant victories in the Assembly elections in Assam and West Bengal.
In a post on X, Gandhi claimed that a section of BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha had secured their seats through electoral manipulation, alleging that “roughly every sixth MP” of the party had benefited from what he described as “vote theft.” He also criticised the BJP-led administration in Haryana, referring to it as an “infiltrator” government.
Gandhi further stated that seats and even governments were being “stolen” through manipulation of institutions and electoral processes. He asserted that the BJP would struggle to cross 140 seats in the Lok Sabha if elections were conducted fairly.
The Congress leader has repeatedly raised concerns over alleged irregularities in elections, particularly after the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls, where the Indian National Congress questioned the outcome, citing discrepancies in electoral rolls and exit poll projections. However, despite public statements and press briefings, Gandhi has not submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission of India in support of his claims.
His latest remarks come in the wake of the BJP’s strong performance in recent Assembly elections. In West Bengal, the party secured over 200 seats, while the All India Trinamool Congress finished second with 80 seats. In Assam, the BJP won 82 seats, with its allies — the Bodoland Peoples Front and the Asom Gana Parishad — securing 10 seats each, while Congress and its allies managed 21 seats.
