DULIAJAN, Jul 15: The Dibrugarh District Committee of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Residential Officer of Oil India Limited (OIL), urging the company to adopt measures to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the disposal and transportation of scrap materials.
The organisation said the movement of scrap materials, including iron, copper, pipes and machinery parts sold through tenders, often created public suspicion due to the lack of visible identification and publicly available information, particularly in light of past reports of theft of OIL property.
SMSS urged OIL to video-record the loading, weighing and dispatch of scrap materials and upload the footage to its official website. It also sought mandatory display of “OIL Approved Scrap” stickers on transport vehicles, carriage of tender documents, challans and gate passes by drivers, public disclosure of successful bidders and scrap details, prior intimation to the police and civil administration, and a clear policy governing scrap transportation.
The memorandum, signed by district president Madhurya Baruah and secretary Jagajit Gohain, stated that these measures would improve transparency, prevent illegal activities involving OIL assets and strengthen public confidence in the company.
