Three More Arrested in Morikolong Robbery Case, Nagaon Police Recover Weapons and Vehicle

Guwahati, May 10: Nagaon Police has arrested three more persons in connection with the sensational robbery case reported from Morikolong in Assam’s Nagaon district, officials said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das said the arrests were made during a police operation conducted in Lakhimpur. The accused have been identified as Rajibur Rahman, Rezzak Ali and Nur Hussain Ali.

According to police, the arrests led to significant breakthroughs in the investigation. Based on the confessional statements of the accused, police recovered two machetes allegedly used in the robbery from an abandoned location in Morikolong.

Investigators also seized a Mahindra Bolero suspected to have been used during the commission of the crime. Police said the owner of the vehicle has been summoned for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

During the probe, police recovered photographs of imitation gold jewellery allegedly looted from Ranjit Saikia from the mobile phones of the arrested accused.

Earlier, police had arrested three other accused in connection with the same case. They were identified as Umar Ali, Mintu Hussain and Nazirul Islam.

To ensure a comprehensive investigation into the robbery, the Nagaon SSP has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police.
