Upasana Kunj Stage Inaugurated at Udalguri’s Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan

Udalguri, June 23: A newly constructed stage named ‘Upasana Kunj’ was inaugurated at Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan in Udalguri, one of the prominent Assamese-medium educational institutions in the greater Udalguri region, during a function attended by several dignitaries and educationists.

Inaugurating the facility, Assam Transport and Bodoland Development Minister Chandan Brahma stressed the importance of education, describing it as the foundation of life and stating that no region can achieve progress without it. He acknowledged that he had been unable to extend substantial assistance to the institution during his tenure as MLA of Mazbat but assured that he would make efforts to secure special financial support for the school in the future in his capacity as a minister.

BTC Deputy Chief Executive Member and MLA Rihon Daimary, who attended as the chief guest, said existing policies had prevented the government from extending support to the institution so far. He expressed hope that future policies would enable assistance to private educational institutions such as Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan and lauded the school for maintaining high educational standards.

Udalguri District Commissioner Joy Bikash lit the ceremonial lamp and highlighted the role of values and discipline in shaping students. He said moral and cultural development begins at home and within society and added that genuine education can only be achieved when students cultivate strong ethical principles.

BTC Executive Member and Udalguri District BJP president Ajay Kumar Hazarika described the newly established Upasana Kunj as more than just a stage, calling it a centre for fostering creativity, talent and value-based learning among students. He also praised noted businessman and philanthropist Harichand Agarwala for his contribution towards the advancement of education and social development.

The inaugural meeting was presided over by School Management Committee president Nripendra Sharma. Constructed at an estimated cost of nearly ₹10 lakh, the Upasana Kunj stage was donated by Harichand Agarwala.

Several prominent personalities, including Higher Secondary School Principal Davidson Daimary, former Principal Pushpadhar Sharma, Udalguri Press Club adviser Gautam Jyoti Talukdar and Press Club president Gunjit Das, attended the programme and extended their best wishes for the institution’s continued growth.

School Principal Jupitara Talukdar, Management Committee secretary Dilip Dutta, social workers, parents, members of the school administration and students also participated in the event. Members of the donor’s family, including Barumalji Agarwala, Kanta Agarwala, Mahabir Agarwala, Ravi Agarwala, Bikash Agarwala and Amit Agarwala, were present on the occasion.

The inaugural session was conducted by teacher Nava Das, while Principal Jupitara Talukdar delivered the vote of thanks.
