Zubeen Garg justice meeting called at Zubeen Khetra after two accused get bail

GUWAHATI, Oct 16: Visual artist Marshall Baruah and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi have called for a public meeting at Zubeen Khetra in Sonapur on Saturday to discuss the next course of action in the campaign for justice for singer Zubeen Garg following bail for two accused in quick succession.

The meeting is scheduled for October 17 at noon. Baruah urged people to attend, questioning whether the remaining accused would also be released and calling for a collective discussion on the way forward.

“Amritprabha, an accused in the death of Zubeen Garg, has obtained bail. Will the other accused also be granted bail? To discuss this and decide our next steps, we will all gather at Zubeen Khetra tomorrow, October 17, at 12 noon,” Baruah said, urging the public to join the discussion. He ended his appeal with “Joi Zubeen Da”.

Gogoi issued a similar invitation in a social media post, asking people to gather at Zubeen Khetra at noon on Saturday to discuss the demand for justice for Zubeen Garg.

Singer Amritprabha Mahanta was recently granted bail by the Gauhati High Court, while Zubeen’s cousin Sandipan Garg secured bail on Friday. Both had filed bail petitions in January.

The Special Investigation Team’s chargesheet named seven accused in the case. Sandipan Garg, a suspended Assam Police Deputy Superintendent of Police, was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
